Twenty years ago, Sabre Medical was created to solve a critical medical device packaging need in Australia. When Cochlear faced a challenge, our CEO, Doug Watson proposed a clean packaging solution. With support from Roger Leigh, Head of the Mulberry B Project Engineering (and a keen cyclist), a purchase order was placed, and Sabre Medical was born.

Fast forward two decades: Sabre Medical is now a mature company with a team of dedicated designers, engineers, and scientists, supported by 3D printers, thermoformers, sterilisers, and more. Our partnership with Cochlear has only grown stronger, and our commitment to innovation and collaboration remains unwavering.

To mark our 20-year anniversary and honour our long-standing friendship with Cochlear, we recently hosted 25 Cochlear engineers at our Lane Cove headquarters. After coffee and muffins, guests embarked on guided tours across our five specialty areas, led by our subject matter experts.

The morning concluded with a special presentation to Roger Leigh, a custom-designed cycling jersey, a symbolic tribute to the journey we’ve shared.

We’re grateful for 20 years of partnership with Cochlear and look forward to many more years of shared innovation and excellence in medical device manufacturing and packaging.
